How I am fitting into year 8 so far

Before I started I just wanted to say sorry for not uploading, but in 2023 i will try to upload way more and try to do new things and make this blog even better.

Anyway, back to the blog. I started year 8 in September  and I’m finding it pretty cool with a lot of new things that have occurred. For example, sets, sports, learning, not being the youngest year in the school and even more things. I am going to try to explain as many things that happened to me in year 8 so far.

Sets are where you are put in a classroom with people at your skill level and they decide what set you should be in based on your exams. I never had sets in year 7. It was all mixed ability but this year we are in sets for a couple of subjects. Those consist of: French, Maths and Science. At the start of the year, when we got our new timetable it said on the sheet what set we are in. I am in set two for french, set one for science and set two for maths. There are 4 sets and set one has the highest performing students. The good thing is you can move up a set if you are doing really well. One thing that confuses me is how they did not have sets for English because if they did I would be in set one as in year 7 I got all A’s. It’s ok though because maybe in year 9 they will have set’s for English.

Sport’s. I said that in my previous blogs (which I recommend you read) I like playing football, basketball and rugby. But this year I have started to play badminton. I tried it out last year and I wasn’t really good. Actually sometimes i couldn’t even hit the shuttlecock! But this year I wanted to start to play badminton so I went to all my school’s training sessions. I sometimes went to the gym with my dad to practise and that really helped as he gave me lots of good tips. What’s even better is that when he was younger he used to play badminton and was really good. Fast forward a few weeks, and I made it on the badminton team. The team only required 4 players. But on the match day 2 players were sent home for some reason. I am pretty sure it is because we had two many players. But I somehow stayed on the team and played the match but we sadly lost. I still play football and rugby. I stopped playing basketball because I was doing too many sports and needed to focus on studying.

Learning. I was quite happy with what sets I got into but I want to get into set one for maths. If you are wondering about the other subjects, if i get moved down from set one science, that won’t happen because i am acing science i have just got all A’s so far. I wanted to practise on my maths because my test results for maths weren’t that good. So I went and started to practise and make sure I did well on the test. And it paid off really well, I got the highest in the class. I have one more test in January or February and then they decide from my set who moves up. That’s it from me today but i want you to remember: practise does pay off and if you have to stop doing something fun to focus on studying, trust me it pays off. See you in the new year. Don’t forget, if you like what you’re reading now make sure you follow and like me.
