Recap of year 8

The year 8 summer term ended not that long ago. This means that in September I’ll be in year 9 and I have to say that I am looking forward to it. But we can’t forget what happened in year 8 so in this blog I am going to tell you some of the key highlights that happened to me in year 8.

First of all, sport is a big thing at my school and I was involved in a lot of things but I’ll try to break it down. During the start of the school academic year I played a lot of rugby and played in a lot of matches against schools. I found that rugby was a sport that I enjoyed and that I was good at it. It was my second year playing rugby and every year I got better. I had lots of fun until the end of the season. At the start of the year 8 I didnt just play rugby, I also played badminton. I started playing badminton in year 7 but i wast that good as I would always miss the shuttlecock. But I didn’t give up and I kept going to training at my school and going to the gym with my dad to play as well. And in the end I got so much better. I even got on the school team to play against a school which I was so happy about. Later in the school year I played cricket at my school which I wasn’t the best at but I still enjoyed playing it. I went to a lot of the school cricket training sessions which helped me improve a lot. In the summer I ended up playing a game against a school but we sadly lost. Overall I would say I had fun playing all the sports in year 8 and I will gladly do them all again in year 9.

Next I’ll be talking about the academic year. Recently before we ended for the summer break everyone in my year was assigned by their English teacher to write an essay about if lots of famous and not famous people were on a hot air balloon that was going to crash who would you decide to save. After everyone had written their essay, they read in front of the class. Two people were elected for who had the best speech by the teacher and they would be in the final. In my class I was one of the people who was elected and my friend was also elected. The person who I chose is not someone you would expect. You would think that I chose a scientist that cured a disease or someone like Martin Luther king but I didn’t. I chose Muhammed Ali. Those people did accomplish great things but I think that Muhhamed Ali isn’t mentioned enough and was a great influence for many people. As I was saying, I made it to the final with 8 other people and after reading my speech the judges did like it but I didn’t win sadly. It’s ok that i didn’t win but it was nice that i made it to the finals.

I also went on a residential trip with my form which was so fantastic. We did so many activities. Every day in the evening we would go to the field and play a football match which was insane and during the day we did exciting activities. I was there for 4 days and everyday we did something new. One day we did paintballing, the other day we went to Alton towers. We also did abseiling and gorge scrambling which was fun. When we were doing paintballing i was hiding behind a small wooden wall and someone pushed me and my team and i got lasered with paint bullets and it really hurt. Gorge scrambling was fun going through tight tall rocks and just barely squeezing through. We even went down a mountain. I am not a big fan of roller coasters but at Alton Towers I went on some good ones like Wickerman and thirteen. I have to say that Wickerman is so fast, especially with the drop at the start.I really enjoyed the trip and i think that was the best key highlight of year 8.

In conclusion, year 8 was filled with thrilling things and I have to say I enjoyed it. I am excited for year 9. So many new things are going to happen in year 9. For example, I have to pick my GCSE subjects and my form and I am going on a trip which includes going on giant water inflatables, camping out with my friends and doing archery. I can’t wait for year 9. Have a nice day and I’ll post soon.
