The Future of A.I and Its Impact on Society

The last time I posted was four months ago. In that time, so much has happened with me both inside and outside of school. This blog is about the future of A.I — how it will impact society as a whole, and which groups of people will be affected more than others.

Only two years ago, ChatGPT was released to the public as a free, interactive platform. The world was amazed when it launched — and many still are today. There’s so much you can do with ChatGPT: write code, create stories, design websites, and more. The possibilities seem endless. Millions of students now use A.I every day, whether for schoolwork or personal projects. But while the thought of A.I in education is exciting, it raises a big question: is it really helping us learn?

For example, a study involving Turkish high school students found that those who used A.I to solve practice math problems actually performed worse than those who didn’t rely on it. I’m not saying A.I is bad — it can be a powerful tool — but it often gives you the answer straight away, meaning you might not fully understand the process behind it. In fact, a 2023 survey showed that 30% of students admitted to using A.I tools for assignments. This highlights how tempting it can be to use A.I like a “cheat code” rather than doing the hard work of researching and figuring things out yourself.

Beyond education, A.I is also changing the world of work. Manufacturing and assembly jobs have already been heavily replaced by robot operators, welders, and pickers. These were once reliable, if low-paying, jobs — and their disappearance leaves many people struggling to survive. Even careers that require higher skills and degrees, like data processing and analysis, are at risk.

Think about transport: right now, if we need a ride, we call an Uber or a taxi. But Tesla is developing a car with no steering wheel, no gears — just seats and windows. It will take you anywhere you want to go, completely driverless. If this becomes mainstream, millions of drivers could lose their jobs.

But it’s not just about jobs — A.I is also reshaping how we live day to day. Imagine planning a summer holiday. Normally, you’d spend hours or even days searching for flights, hotels, attractions, and transport options. Now, you can simply ask an A.I like Google Gemini to plan it for you:
“Hey Gemini, I’d like to go to Japan in the summer for five nights. I want a nice but affordable place to stay, and I’d like a four-day itinerary of exciting attractions.”
Within seconds, you’d have a personalized plan ready. That’s how powerful today’s A.I already is.

So, if A.I today can already plan your holidays, create websites, and even drive cars, just imagine what it could do in the future.

This is my first blog in a couple of months. Thank you to everyone who reads my posts — more are coming soon. Keep reading, and have a great day!
